I have grown roses for over 40 years in the Pacific Northwest
and now thanks to retirement, I have managed to stuff over 800 roses in an acre of land. The roses on this site have all been
grown by me, the good ones are still in the garden while others have gone to a new home. My standards for roses
are simple. The rose must put on growth yearly, only have disease problems when the weather and bug odds are against them
and the blooms must not turn a dirty colour when aging. The last seems to annoy me the most.
On this site, I hope to encourage you to consider some of the
older roses plus the newer disease resistant ones that are now being bred by responsible breeders. As you can see this site
is still being worked on, especially the navigation and other glitches. Right now I am simply loading up the pictures
as I take them. Later I will arrange them to make sense. Until then please bear with me and enjoy the photographs as I will
be adding many more as the roses bloom. I have tried to show the roses as they really are in the garden such as how
they change colour (especially the Austin roses) and how the flower changes as it opens. The Oldrosarian
