SPECIES......are the original wild roses. Some have been crossed with another modern rose to give a different flower shape. All are usually quite hardy but can tend to get large and spread, especially if grown on their own roots. Individual pruning applies to this group because you can ruin the graceful shape of these roses by pruning them too hard.
