Roses gone bad

AUSTIN SHRUBS or ENGLISH ROSES......these are a mixed bag. The older ones were mainly hybrid teas and floribundas crossed with the very old roses. Now they are even crossed between his own breeding. Most are very hardy but have differences in regards to flowering and disease resistance. They do well in warm climates and colder ones it is the in between climates that seem to cause the disease problems. Austin himself says they must be grafted but some do fine on their own roots. They are pruned according to how they grow such as upright, spreading, bushy etc Most benefit from a little spraying for black spot. All Austin roses benefit from a rich soil and will only repeat well when established for around 4 years or more in the cooler climates.
