MODERN SHRUBS......the word modern refers to the date of introduction not to the parentage. Many of them are crossed with species roses to get vigour and hardiness. They are a mixed group with some flowering only once and others repeat flowering. Flowers range from single to double, some even like the old garden blooms. But on the whole they are hardier than hybrid teas and floribundas. They require little pruning usually about a third back to keep them neat. The more modern shrubs even have flowers like a hybrid tea shape.
